The OpenAI Foundation exists to help ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity. We believe realizing that promise will require more than advances in AI itself. It will require putting AI to work in new ways: expanding the reach of scientific and medical progress, strengthening resilience, expanding what civil society can accomplish, and building organizations capable of turning new capabilities into benefits that reach people broadly.
We are building the Foundation to help make that happen.
In March 2026, we announced the Foundation’s initial hires and shared our goal to invest at least $1 billion over the next year across areas including AI Resilience, Life Sciences and Curing Diseases, and AI for Civil Society and Philanthropy and we are well on our way.
That work is already taking many forms, with a focus on finding and scaling solutions that can make a tangible difference. We are supporting efforts to put AI to work against diseases like Alzheimer’s, strengthen our ability to detect emerging biological threats, help lifesaving medical advances reach more people, and build the capacity of civil society to navigate and benefit from AI.
And we are just getting started.
The Foundation has substantial resources, a broad mandate, and a team that is still small. We want to build an organization that can move with the urgency of a startup, make meaningful progress on important problems now, and build programs that can sustain and compound that progress over time.
That means we need exceptional people to help build both our programs and the institution itself.
We are hiring for more than 20 roles, including:
Head, AI for Alzheimer’s—Help discover ways to prevent and treat this disease for patients and their families, around the world, for good.
Head of Grant Operations—Help us build the systems and operations required to make grants at a new scale in philanthropy.
Head of Talent—Help us build a world-class team, drawing exceptional people from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds and assembling unusually dense talent at pace.
Chiefs of Staff for AI Resilience and Life Sciences and Curing Diseases—Help turn ambitious strategies into programs and institutions that can have lasting impact.
And many more roles across our programs and operations.
There are not many opportunities to join an organization at this stage: with a mission this large, significant resources behind it, and much of the organization still left to build.
We are looking for people who are ambitious about what AI could make possible and clear-eyed about the work required to make those benefits real. Scientists who want discoveries to become treatments. Grantmakers who want to back important work before it is obvious. Operators who want to build an organization capable of working at unusual scale. And people from fields we may not yet know we need.
